Black Labrador Retriever

About Us

My objective is to breed a small number of litters to raise, happy healthy puppies that will make gorgeous family pets. My philosophy is consistent with that of Dogs NSW to breed to improve the breed. In 2002 I took delivery of my first Chocolate Labrador bitch with a view to commence breeding but have decided instead to ignore colour and go with the best available genetics and temperament. Our property is 10kms west of Merriwa, a small town in the Upper Hunter and our main business is cattle, including a black Angus stud, Tivoli Angus and mixed farming. We are very focussed on breeding and work with a large number of local vets, including one who lives on our property. We are fortunate to have a home in Sydney and it is possible to take puppies to Sydney to meet prospective new families

Our Breeding Environment

Breeding has to be a passion as to do it properly, you invest a lot of your heart in sole in the rearing of puppies. It is also critical to work with other breeders with integrity and experience in sourcing a new bitch and sires. My research in this area commenced in 2001 and I can now draw on this experience in matching a sire with my bitch. Like many breeders, I am very close to my bitch as she gets close to whelping, adjusting her diet and monitoring her closely. The whelping box is set up in our kitchen and I sleep next to the whelping box for a number of weeks as Labrador puppies are so precious and I don't want anything to go wrong. Our puppies are handled from birth and become well adjusted, family friendly dogs. I am also very fussy on where our puppies can go, they must go to loving new carers that will be able to look after them properly and where they will enhance the lives of their new families.
