The Rhodesian Ridgeback is a handsome breed that is distinguished by the ridge that runs down the spine of its back. Dogs of this breed have a moderate energy level, making them a quiet and gentle family companion. Rhodesian Ridgebacks will not hesitate to defend their families and home if the need arises. Because of their size, intelligence, and power, this breed is not for everyone and can become too much for families that cannot provide him with exercise, socialisation, supervision, and training.
Lifestyle and Living Environment
Ridgebacks are adaptable to different home environments as long as they receive about an hours worth of exercise every day. If bored or left alone outside, they will try to escape, sometimes by climbing or digging under fences. They only tend to bark at important times, however keep in mind that almost any breed will bark when they become bored or lonely.
Common Health Issues
Rhodesian Ridgebacks are prone to: Elbow Dysplasia, Hip Dysplasia, Dermoid Sinus.
